About 10 kilometers away from Benin City, Capital of Edo state and one of largest cities in southern Nigeria, There lies a little town called Egor formerly known as Oredo. Benin City which was an ancient pre-colonial empire in Nigeria, famous for its abundance in rich musical, art and cultural heritage happens to be the home town of classical and contemporary musical vocalist and song writer Nosa Donald Osayamwen who is popularly known by the stage name Djinee.
We all think we know about Djinee, of course. But for those who’ve been off-planet, here’s a recap on the story so far. Djinee is a Nigerian urban singer with a captivating tenor vocal range and a unique soft rock edge. He is also a producer, a guitarist and a fabulous song writer. Born in Shagamu, a small town in Ogun State, which is located in South-Western Nigeria. Djinee attended Boys Model Secondary School, Evboneka in Edo State where he had his junior secondary school education.
"I knew I had my voice as early Six years (6) old or thereabout because each time I sang it had an effect on people. Back in primary school when I'll sing for the entire primary school at end of year school events, I would have a lot of people look at me in amazement like I had done something supernatural".
Djinee's father was into business management and printing technology while his Mother was a matron who ran her own private clinic in Lagos state.
"My father was well read, he made I and my siblings read newspapers a lot. Every evening when he comes back from work he drops the dailies on the living room table and we have to read them because he will ask us questions on them the next day. Yes o. This started as early as early as when we could read. So I ended up having scattered knowledge about world affairs, economics, history, diplomacy, espionage (yes that too), sports etc."
